The Age of Modern Architecture in Qatar

Joel’s 10-day Qatar trip was made in order to photograph the architectural masterpieces of the country. His stay in Qatar left him with the best impressions; the energy and warmth of people, the incredible feeling of being in the Middle East, the ever-existent presence of the Islamic culture and the modern architecture were the highlights of his trip.

Joel Tjintjelaar is a fine art photographer who believes that one of the objectives of art is to evoke a universal subjectivity. To achieve this artist uses the dialect of black and white photography, not for its purification of color, but for redounding of unreal colors to achieve an otherworldly manner of abstraction.

Museum of Islamic Arts, National Library, Katara Towers, Burj Doha, Qatar National Museum, Al Janoub Stadium, Doha Metro UNStudio; these grand architectural design objects which constitute the identity of Qatar by their creators, transform into the subject of photography in this exhibition.

This manifestation that centers only on its subject is an advanced and sophisticated approach to portraiture. This expressive language, which is an example and inspiration for many, is the identity records of the architects, of the architecture, of himself and in fact of Doha and Qatar.
