This unusual art installation, in all its complexity, serves a simple purpose: to pay tribute to mankind’s spirit of innovation.
In a format of 20-minute show, Seero fi al ardh tells the story of human progress which began with mankind walking through this earth to discover the wonders of God’s creations, and later on to manipulate nature, and eventually machines, to shape the world around them. After the show, visitors will enjoy a guided tour of an exhibition that sheds light on the artist's inspirational process and the artwork's background stories.
Seeroo fi al ardh is the final artwork of renowned artist Maqbool Fida Husain. In the format of 20-minute show, Seeroo fi al ardh highlights the progress of humanity on land, in air and sea, and their inclination to utilize the surrounding resources to achieve their goals. After the show, visitors will enjoy a guided tour of an exhibition that sheds light on the artist's inspirational process and the artwork's background stories.
The exhibition can be accessed via the Blue line of the Education City tram.
Visitors can access the Seeroo fi al Ardh exhibition by car. Parking is available in the Chef’s Garden restaurant parking lot.
It is accessible by the Doha Metro. Education City station is the closest metro station.
The exhibition is, above all, a response to the divine command cited in the title: Seero fi al ardh “Travel through the earth and observe how He began creation…” (Qur’an 29:20).
The Seero fi al ardh is part of M.F. Husain’s extensive project on Arab civilization. The installation was commissioned by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, in addition to a series of paintings that reflect the 99 names of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate. The artwork itself tells the story of the progression of human civilization through the history of the Arab region.
It touches on how people throughout the region used nature, and ultimately machines, to further their ambitions. And it highlights the fact that the enlightened mindset that sparks innovation and experimentation existed in the Arab world both before and during the European Renaissance. M.F. Husain passed away before the installation was completed. After his death, Qatar Foundation completed the installation, taking care to ensure it included all the details in the artist’s final plan.
Seero fi al ardh was unveiled in Education City on December 11, 2019, and is now one of the many art exhibitions open to the public to visit in Education City.
Education City in Doha is home to branch campuses of some of the world’s leading educational institutes, a homegrown research university, start-up incubators, technology parks, heritage sites, cultural institutions, and much more.
