Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium's nearby attractions

To understand Qatar’s history and heritage, Al Wajbah Fort makes an ideal destination to start with. Its one of Qatar’s oldest forts and was built in the 1882 time frame. Al Wajbah Fort is situated in the Al Rayyan area and played a pivotal role during the time the Ottomans ruled over Qatar. It was the Al Wajbah Fort that provided protection to Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani and his army from the Ottomans with its sturdy and thick walls, and its four watchtowers that were built to provide a good defence against enemies. The Ottomans were unsuccessful in taking over the fort and conceded their defeat in 1893, in a battle that came to be known as the ‘Battle of Al Wajbah’. Later, Al Wajbah Fort was used by Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani as a residence before being renovated in the latter half of the 20th century to become a historical site in Qatar.
