My story
I have worked in Doha for over 7 years as part of the Concierge department and nothing brings me greater joy than bringing smiles to the faces of guests that walk through our doors. I love that Qatar is peaceful and structured. Everything works! It is no wonder that we recently ranked first in the Global Peace Index for countries in Middle East and North Africa. The development and growth of Qatar in comparison to when I first arrived is also very intriguing. When I arrived, there were only a few malls; now there are so many! Moreover, we are preparing to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022. I am particularly looking forward to when we can host the teams in our resort.

Explore Zekreet Film City
This old style film village is an interesting attraction for tourists and locals alike; it showcases sweeping views of the desert and the crystal-clear waters of the gulf. It was originally built for the Arabic TV series Eyaal Al Theeb but it has been transformed to a touristic destination for those wishing to explore the beauty of Qatar. While driving Film City, you can stop and take a few snaps before heading to Zekreet Desert and climb up various sandstone formations to capture the best selfie. Oryxes roam freely around this area, so you might be lucky and catch one in your pictures!
Be captivated by the beauty of Zekreet beach
A hidden gem located 100kms away from Doha with captivating landscapes on the West Coast of Qatar. The scenic drive and picturesque surroundings make Zekreet Beach one of my favorite places. The sunsets are absolutely breathtaking and I highly recommend you bring your goggles to snorkel in the ocean or stay inlands for a chance to experience some of Qatar’s wildlife like the deer, ostriches or gazelles. Make sure you have a snack box with you while enjoying an adventurous day at Zekreet Beach because dining services are not available.
Unwind at Al Thakhira Beach
When I first visited Qatar, I didn’t think there would be so many beaches; but one of my favourites will be the Al Thakhira beach located about 60kms from Doha. For families looking to have a good picnic and enjoy a relaxing day by the beach, this is the best spot for you. Take a walk along the promenade, sit on the benches along the beach shores, let the kids have a fun time on the playgrounds or just take in the views of the mangroves from the shores. Whichever you choose, you are guaranteed a fun time away from home.
Enjoy the perfect escape at Purple Island
Located in the northeast of Qatar in Al Khor City, Purple Island is an hour's drive from Doha; it is called purple because it once served as the dye production site. Some believe it was named Purple Island because of the purple-hued flowers that grow in the marshy land surrounding the island. Be sure to bring your picnic box, Bluetooth speakers and sunscreen while you are with friends or family.

My travel tips
Make sure to download a ride hailing app to move easily around Qatar. You can also use the local taxis that are available. Metros are also connected to major attractions if you wish to use this means of transportation.
