In honor of his ancestor, Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani, The Father Emir located the Arabian breeding farm at the landmark Al Shaqab battle site where almost a century prior, in 1893, the Bedouins fought a pivotal battle that led to Qatar's independence. Arabian horses played a very significant role in the battle and were integral to the local culture – which is why their preservation of these animals and their heritage is paramount.

Its existence rests on three underlying pillars of education, excellence, and heritage, enabling it to be a leading equine center of excellence that provides an engaging experience for the community - a place for everyone to celebrate Qatar’s unique heritage and history.

Al Shaqab’s magnificent seven World Champion stallions spread over three generations – Gazal Al Shaqab; Marwan Al Shaqab; Al Adeed Al Shaqab; Kahil Al Shaqab; Hariry Al Shaqab; Fadi Al Shaqab; and Wadee Al Shaqab. Gazal Al Shaqab and his son, Marwan Al Shaqab, head the International Arabian section, while the late, Al Adeed Al Shaqab was universally recognized as possibly the finest Straight Egyptian on the planet.
