Al Hazm

For a break from strolling through the stores in Al Hazm, head to the Al Hazm Cultural Centre.  This lavish library has wood panelled bookcases with gold detailing, transporting visitors in time and place; to academic libraries of yore.  Visitors can browse a diverse selection of books, manuscripts, encyclopaedias and magazines, losing themselves amongst the rare and valuable works.  With multiple reading rooms, its easy to curl up with a book, from history to art and classics of literature from across the English and Arabic speaking world.

Al Hazm is a magnificent venue, testament to the efforts of its owner, who brought in marble from Tuscany, stone from Palestine, and artisans from Rajasthan in India. No expense was spared to create this venue, built in the style of classic Italian shopping arcades.  An outdoor ventilation system helps keep the white marble floors cool, allowing visitors to promenade in comfort, no matter the time of year.  With high-end boutiques, trendy restaurants and cafés, Al Hazm offers a host of extras such as limousine services, valet parking, a childrens’ area, and personal shopping.

The central courtyard in Al Hazm contains beautifully landscaped green spaces, inviting visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the complex.  Olive trees between 250-600 years old dot the greens, imported from Italy and Spain.  Parts of the venue are modelled after Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the world’s oldest shopping malls.

Eight years in the making, Al Hazm is a labour of love, as shown by its painstaking attention to detail.  The showstopper is its Galleria – a stone and marble arcade topped with a 40m glass dome.  Classical Greek and Roman style columns and water fountains have all been designed to enable visitors to immerse themselves in a European experience whilst in the heart of Doha.

The AlHazm Cultural Centre offers calm introspection amidst the hubbub of the complex.

Katara Cultural Village is Doha’s go-to destination for culture and entertainment.  Containing galleries, a planetarium, theatres and performances venues, as well as restaurants set along the waterfront, it is the perfect place to soak up some sun and culture.  Cap off the day at The Pearl Qatar, built on reclaimed land where pearl divers once worked.  Shops, cafes and restaurants line the marina, where yachts bob along the water.  Qanat Quartier is a Venetian inspired area within The Pearl, with canals and candy-coloured buildings adding cheer, and more commercial spaces sating visitors.
