Grand Prix of Qatar (MotoGP) 2022

The 2022 MotoGP season kicked off in Qatar with intense racing action. The race saw the return of the Aprilia factory team, and debut races for both RNF MotoGP Racing and the VR46 Racing Team.

THE 2022 MOTOGP SEASON OFF TO A FLYING START

The opening race of the season took place on March 6, 2022, and was a race of many firsts. Five riders made their premier class debuts, including Remy Gardner, Raúl Fernández, Fabio di Giannantonio, Marco Bezzecchi and Darryn Binder. Enea Bastianini took the checkered flag, with Brad Binder and Pol Espargaró following him across the line and onto the podium

HOW THE 2022 MOTOGP SEASON FINISHED

Qatar race winner Bastianini put in a strong performance across the season, but couldn’t quite keep up the pace with eventual championship winner Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia. Pecco also led the charge for Ducati to take the Constructors' World Championship title.

In a break from tradition, the Qatar GP was not the season opener in 2023. Instead, the upgraded Lusail International Circuit hosted the 19th round of the 2023 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. The race saw the Prima Pramac Racing team make history by securing the Teams' Championship.

Where the MotoGP action takes place

Lusail International Circuit is situated 22 miles north of Qatar’s capital city, Doha. The circuit opened its doors in 2004, and in 2007, added permanent floodlights to facilitate evening races. Lusail International Circuit is 5.38 km long with 16 turns (10 right turns and 6 left turns).
