Stadium 974

Situated on the east coast, with Doha’s glittering central business district across the water, Stadium 974 (previously known as Ras Abu Aboud Stadium) is a remarkable, ultra-modern arena set to host a series of group stage matches during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

How to get there?

  • The stadium is accessible by car or taxi.

  • Karwa, Uber and Careem drop-off and pick up facilities will be toward the southeast of the stadium.

  • The Ras Bu Abboud station on the Gold Line of the Doha Metro is the nearest metro station to the stadium.

Designed by the internationally recognised architects Fenwick Iribarren, this innovative and pioneer, 40,000-capacity stadium was constructed out of shipping containers, and steel elements that pay homage to Qatar’s rich maritime heritage. Each container set in a different colour makes for a truly eye-catching venue.

After the tournament, many parts of the arena - including seats, containers and even the roof will be repurposed for use elsewhere. The stadium itself will make way for a stunning waterfront development for everyone to experience.

Stadium 974 was constructed out of 974 shipping containers, the number is incidentally Qatar’s international dialling code. The idea is to remind the world of the Qatar Government’s commitment to always have sustainability in mind when considering major projects. After being dismantled the location will eventually become a stylish waterfront recreation area featuring restaurants, retail options and more.

Popular attractions and city highlights you can discover while you're in the area include the gorgeous Katara Cultural Village, the calming Corniche and the bustling Souq Waqif that is popular among locals and visitors alike.
