Discoveries inside Al Thuraya Planetarium
Always dreamt of becoming an astronaut? This is your chance to get behind the science of space travel and explore the role of astronomy in Qatar’s history and religious traditions.
Astronomical dome
The large astronomical dome is where you can catch free shows in air-conditioned comfort, projected on a 22-metre screen. With space for 200 people, feel like you’re travelling to far-flung places in the galaxy, with stories told in 2D and 3D.
Events terrace
Outside the 2,240 sqm planetarium, a vast terrace overlooking the sea serves as a platform for events and activities, providing entertainment and education for young and old.
Museum
Don’t miss the museum, where you’ll learn about the split of the moon in the time of the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him), see model replicas of space crafts and take photos with real-life NASA space suits. You can also find out how much you’ll weigh on different planets and take a closer look at space equipment used by astronauts.

The surrounding Katara Cultural Village offers much to do, with beautiful mosques and art galleries to visit, great eateries and hotels, shopping at Galleries Lafayette and a spacious public beach.
Questions about visiting the planetarium?
Al Thuraya Planetarium is located in Katara Cultural Village. It can be reached by local public transport (Al Qassar stop on the Red line), car or taxi.
Entry to the planetarium is free and there’s no need to book tickets to the shows, although admission is on a first-come first-served basis. Take a look at the tickets section of their website for upcoming events.
Some of the previous shows included The Stars, The Zula Patrol Show and Perfect Little Planet. Shows are suitable for all ages.
Some of the interesting sights to visit include the Katara Mosque, Amphitheatre, shopping at 21 High Street, walking in Katara Hills and visiting the public beach.
