In December 2022, it was announced that Qatar would host WEC racing on a 6-year contract. The race name Qatar 1812 km was chosen to commemorate Qatar National Day which falls on the 18th of December. The race covers 1812 km with a 10-hour time limit and will open the twelfth season of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
