For the first time outside of France, the World Horse Championship will be held in Qatar in 2023 and 2025. Get ready for the world’s most prestigious showcase of exquisite Arabian purebred horses at Old Doha Port.
The World Arabian Horse Championship is the pinnacle of year-round Arabian horse shows and competitions taking place across the world. For the first time, Qatar was chosen as the venue for this year’s celebration of the ancestral beauty of Arabian horses.
The annual event brings together more than 100 horses from over 25 countries, plus around 2,000 attendees of horse owners, breeders and other equestrian professionals. On the third day, prizes will include best breeder, farm of the year, highest score and best sire of the show.
The Arabian horse is the oldest purebred horse breed in the world with ancient roots in the Arabian peninsula. With its distinctive head shape and high tail carriage, the Arabian is prized for its speed, stamina, beauty, intelligence, and gentleness. Its breeding is a carefully preserved art, preserved by a whole sector of professionals: owners, breeders, trainers and artisans.
Qatar has not only built a reputation as a pioneer in breeding Arabian horses, but also as a world-class hub for horses and equestrian sports. One such example is Al Shaqab equestrian centre – home to more than 700 Arabian horses. As the host of this year’s championship, Qatar will further cement its standing in this discipline.
Each day, there will be a competition of the best fillies, mares, colts and stallions, culminating in the awards presentation on the third day.
The Old Doha Port will form a beautiful backdrop to the event, with the colourful buildings of the Mina District and the skyline of Doha. Here are more highlights to look out for.
Looking ahead to 2024, the event will be hosted at Paris Porte De Versailles from 13 to 14 December but will return to Doha once again in 2025, from 10 to 13 December. For the 2026 edition, the world’s top horses will gather at Paris Porte De Versailles, from 11 to 15 December.
